3:58 pm. Flight from Qatar to Bahrain on Qatar Airways. The flight was scheduled to arrive one hour before iftar, Qatar Airways provided an iftar package.
5:10 pm. Bougainvillea at home. We just bought a small potted one for my house in Doha and took this picture to show my wife the one we have in our house in Bahrain, planted in 1992.

5:38 pm. Father, serving iftar that included cheese samboosas and mutabaq.

10.58 AM. My father’s surgery (reason for going to Bahrain) was cancelled. I decided to try to go back to Qatar and booked a taxi to Khobar via the King Fahad Causeway. The plan is to get a ride the next day to Doha, Qatar. Packed a small suitcase instead of taking the originally planned two large suitcases with gifts from my mother. I left most of my clothes and belongings and packed as many gifts as I could into a small bag. The gergaoon candy for my daughters took a large portion of the bag.
8:38 pm. Checked in to my hotel in Khobar, ready for my trip the next day.

Gergaoon is celebrated mid-Ramadan, when kids go from house to house singing songs and getting sweets. Traditionally, nuts are given out. This year's celebrations were not as prominent as people were asked to stay home for public safety reasons. This still didn't stop neighbors from sending over the sweets/nuts to continue the tradition.

Umm Salal, Qatar For the last couple of days, we brought the mattresses from the guest bedroom so our kids could sleep with us in the same room. Things have been calmer over the last two days, but we are still worried they might get scared by any sounds at night. After taking this photo, I remembered how my parents had the same setup for my brother and me during the Gulf War. We later moved the mattresses away from the window and closer to the bed.

We just had our iftar - Lebanese pastries and lentil soup.
M (7 years old) is dancing to the preinstalled U2 album on her mother's old iPhone - she says it’s her favorite album right now. We are watching the news on Al Jazeera.
