Photowalk: Mina District with Expired Film and a Box Camera
I missed the first photo walk in January with QatarPhotoWalk to the new Mina District (renovated Corniche Old Doha Port), so I was glad to join last Saturday. We met at Khalifa Art Center and stocked up on film for the day.
My gear and film combinations for the day were:
A ~90-year-old APM Box camera with Foma Film Fomapan 100 Classic Black and White Negative film. I light-sealed the box with some black tape and wished for the best - this was the first time trying this camera and I have had bad luck with box cameras since 2021. Luckily it worked and resulted in some giant 6x9 120 film negatives.
A 12-year-old expired Fujifilm 100 color film (35mm), paired with a Minolta Dynax 7000i and the Minolta AF 100-300mm F/4.5-5.6 I Macro Autofocus Lens (a bargain $10 purchase from last year). This was autofocus, auto exposure, auto everything goodness (the perfect tool for when you want to walk, talk, and shoot film). The lens was eh. ...it worked sometimes and kept missing focus several times, but I like the results.
All black and white photos were with the APM camera and all color photos were with the Minolta/Fujifilm combo:
